Summary

A POSSIBLE ADVANTAGE OF THE USE OF SPECIAL CONTAINERS, SUCH AS THE HYPOBARIC AND NITROGEN CONTAINER, DID NOT APPEAR. FURTHER RESEARCH TO COMPARE SPECIAL CONTAINERS WITH VENTILATED REEFER CONTAINERS IS NOT JUSTIFIED. A HIGHER WEIGHT LOSS OF FLOWERS AT THE END OF A SEA JOURNEY COMPARED TO AIR TRANSPORT DOES NOT LEAD TO LESS ACCEPTABLE RESULTS FOR THE PRODUCT. A PRETREATMENT OF THE FLOWERS BEFORE SHIPPING IS IMPORTANT. IMPORTANT QUALITY LOSSES RESULT FROM CHANGES IN CONDITIONS DURING TRANSPORT AND TRANSFERS. AN UNINTERRUPTED COLD CHAIN FROM GROWER TO RETAILER IS A MUST FOR SEA TRANSPORT OF CUT FLOWERS.
