Tube-side fouling in enhanced tubes in water chiller-flooded condenser and energy penalty.

Author(s) : LI W., ZHONG C. X., DAI C., et al.

Summary

The purpose of this paper is to report a test series that looked at the susceptibility of eight different integral rib roughness geometry heat transfer tubes to fouling in practical cooling tower systems and then described the energy penalty associated with long-term cooling tower water fouling data. The water quality analysis and survey sampled 26 sites located throughout the continental United States and southern Canada. Significant fouling in the tubes results in a large increase of energy penalty at the end of a cooling season.
