Fouling preventing technology for water-cooled condensers with self-rotating twisted strips driven by spiral inlet bearings.

Summary

The loss caused by water-cooled condenser fouling in registration units is estimated to be over 0.3 billion USD per year in China. The self-rotating twisted plastic strip is a good technology to eliminate water fouling and to enhance heat transfer at the same time. But its self-rotating force moment is usually not enough to work in tough situations. So, an improved technology with inlet spiral water flow is developed. Both theoretical analyses and experiments show that the design of water directing strips with small spiral angle and inside tubes with a large diameter on the inlet bearing can effectively increase the moment. For example, type-2030 bearing can make the driving wheel get an additional moment, which is equivalent to 335% moment of a 2-m twisted strip. This new technology is very reliable and works well in most water-cooled systems.
