Fouling preventing technology of inserted tubes with spiral flange for vertical water-cooled condensers.

Summary
Water fouling is the main reason why vertical water coolers generally do not operate efficiently in China. To avoid this problem, a new technology is successfully developed based on the abundant potential energy of cooling water because of the low flowing velocity and large drop in elevation. The spiral flow, caused by the spiral flow path between the condensing pipes and the inserted tubes with spiral flange, greatly enlarges the self-rotating force moment of the inserted tubes. The theoretical analyses and comparison experiments of the inserted tubes of different structure parameters show that the self-rotating moment is proportional to the second power of cooling water flowrate, and the larger diameter and smaller spiral angle of the inserted tubes can help enhance the self-rotating moment. Experimental results also show that the moment increases by 141% over twisted strips and the inserted tubes can reliably self-rotate at the low flowing velocity of about 0.4 m/s. The self-cleaning capacity is much higher and the overall coefficient of heat transfer is increased by 50%. The simple manufacture and installation of the technology also makes it have more potential for industry application.
