Two-dimensional analysis of the tube section of a typical pulse tube refrigerator.

Author(s) : ZAKER A., SAIDI M. H., HANNANI S. K., et al.

Summary

In spite of numerous attempts which have been made during the last decade to optimize pulse tube refrigerators, still theoretical and analytical realization of this device needs to be thoroughly explained. In this paper a two dimensional model for finding the temperature and velocity profile in each section of the pulse tube refrigerator is presented. With the aid of this model the enthalpy flow and entropy generation in the tube section of the pulse tube and COP of the whole refrigerator will be found. For understanding the effect of the two most important parameters related to pulse tube refrigerator which are frequency and length to diameter ratio, 5 different frequencies and 5 different length to diameter ratios are investigated, and with this investigation one will be able to choose a frequency and length to diameter ratio which will produce the maximum COP or the maximum cooling capacity depending on which one is of importance for the manufacturer.
