Underwriters Laboratories publishes safety standards for refrigerant retrofits.

Summary

The Underwriters Laboratories in the USA have issued three new standards concerning the retrofitting of refrigeration and air-conditioning plants with substitute refrigerants. UL2170 covers the equipment for field retrofit. UL2171 covers test procedures for evaluating the compatibility of a substitute refrigerant with hermetic motors and lubricants in existing systems, and UL2172 applies to the personel concerned with such retrofits. A guide is available which presents an overview of the situation and standards. D.W.H.
