Summary
A laboratory experiment was conducted to determine the efficacy of freezing temperature (-18 °C) against Rhyzopertha dominica, Tribolium castaneum, Sitophilus zeamais, Cryptolestes ferrugineus and Oryzaephilus surinamensis infesting stored wheat. The Petri dishes containing wheat grains and adults of none of the stored grains pests were exposed to freezing temperature for 0, 15, 30, 60, 120 and 180 minutes. R. dominica, T. castaneum and C. ferrugineus were the least sensitive to freezing temperature. In contrast, S. zeamais and O. surinamensis showed mortality after 3 hours of exposure to freezing temperature.
