AIR CONDITIONING UNITS IN HONG KONG USE DIRECT SEA WATER COOLED CONDENSERS AND THE ARTICLE OUTLINES SOME OF THE DESIGN AND OPERATING PROBLEMS. OF PARTICULAR CONCERN ARE CORROSION AND EROSION FOULING OF TUBES, DEBRIS, MARINE GROWTH AND TIDAL RANGE. TRAVELLING BAND SCREENS FOR DEBRIS, DUCTILE IRON PIPES TITANIUM PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS AND SUITABLE CHLORINATION SYSTEMS ARE PROPOSED. SOME CONSIDERATION IS ALSO GIVEN TO PUMP DESIGN AND LOCATION INRELATION TO TIDES, BOTH FOR DIRECT AND INDIRECT CONDENSER COOLING SYSTEMS. G.R.S.
