Summary
FAVOURABLE TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS FOR HEAT RECOVERY EXIST IN FARM MILK COOLING SYSTEMS. SOME PROBLEMS HOWEVER ARISE, AS EG: LOW REFRIGERANT LIQUID PRESSURE IN THE RECEIVER, AN INSUFFICIENT SUBCOOLING OF REFRIGERANT, INSUFFICIENT OR EXCESSIVE REFRIGERANT QUANTITY IN THE CIRCUIT, DIFFICULTIES IN STARTING AT LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURE. SOME POSSIBLE ARRANGEMENT METHODS ARE GIVEN WITH AN ASSESSMENT OF POSSIBLE ECONOMIC EFFECT FOR THE CASE OF COOLING 1,000 LITRES OF MILK FROM 308 TO 278 K (35 TO 5 DEG C). AN OPTIMUM LAYOUT OF COMBINED HEAT RECOVERY AND ELECTRIC RESISTANCE WATER HEATING CAN RESULT IN A TOTAL ANNUAL ELECTRIC ENERGY SAVING OF 16,000 KILOWH.
