Summary

ENERGY SAVINGS IN MILK COOLING BY PRECOOLING AND IN HOT WATER PRODUCTION BY INSTALLING A HEAT PUMP ARE DISCUSSED. PRECOOLING CAN EFFECT A 40% ENERGY SAVING BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO ACHIEVE MAXIMUM BENEFIT. ENERGY SAVINGS OF 100% MAY BE ACHIEVED IF WATER FROM THE HEAT PUMP IS USED TO CLEAN MILKING EQUIPMENT AND THE COOLING TANK. HOT WATER FROM THE HEAT PUMP CAN ALSO BE USED FOR DOMESTIC PURPOSES.
