TESTS WERE MADE ON A HEAT PUMP SYSTEM IN WHICH HEAT REMOVED FROM MILK IS USED TO HEAT WATER TO 323-333 K (50-60 DEG C) IN THE BOILER CONDENSER OF THE FARM MILK TANK. BETTER RESULTS WERE OBTAINED WITH A 272 LITRE BOILER CONDENSER CONTROLLED BY A CONDENSER PRESSURE REGULATION AND CAPACITY REGULATION VALVES. NET ENERGY SAVINGS/M3 COOLED MILK RANGED FROM 20.9 KWH FOR A FARM WITH 40 COWS TO 13,8 KWH FOR A FARM WITH 78 COWS. (DAIRY SCI. ABSTR., GB., 45, N.2, 1983/02, 98, 789.
