Summary

The mechanism of destruction of type-two superconductivity by an external current of density is investigated. At zero temperature the superconductivity disappears on violation of the Landau criterion which corresponds to the beginning of nonthreshold creation of closed vortex rings with sizes of the order of magnitude of the correlation length. At a nonzero temperature T dissipativeless current flow is impossible, despite the linear resistance being zero. The dissipation mechanism consists in the thermoactivated creation, subsequent expansion and emerging of the closed vortex rings oriented perpendicularly to the direction of flow. The dissipation rate is calculated and interpreted.
