EIA points out the risks of illegal traffic of refrigerants

Five years after an initial report on the subject, EIA assesses that significant levels of refrigerant traffic persist in Europe, despite the worsening climate situation.

Following the update of the European F-Gas Regulation, the EIA has published a report entitled “More Chilling Than Ever”. According to the EIA, seizures have fallen in recent years, which could be explained by better organization on the part of traffickers.

HFC trafficking could have a significant climate impact: By 2021, EIA has estimated that the carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) of illegally traded HFCs in the EU could reach 30 million tonnes.
