Growth of the Italian frozen food market in 2020
In 2020, the frozen food market in Italy grew in all segments.
According to the Italian Frozen Food Institute (IIAS), the frozen food market in Italy reached a market value of about 4.4 - 4.7 billion euros in 2020. The retail sector contributed to most of the growth, reaching 68.5% of the market value. Favoured by the restrictions related to COVID-19 pandemic, frozen food sales online also increased, a trend that IIAS believes will continue post-pandemic. [1]
According to data from Euromonitor International, the Italian frozen food market grew on all segments in 2020. With an impressive 7.3% growth for frozen processed seafood, the segment reached EUR1.05bn. Frozen ready meals reached EUR321.8m (+3.3%), while processed food and vegetables reached EUR1.1bn in 2020 (+5.5%). The frozen bakery segment reached EUR40.6m (+6.9%). Frozen processed meat grew by 6.5% to EUR130.6m. The smallest increase was in the frozen soups segment (+0.4%) despite a high market value of EUR158.4m. [2]
