On October 24, 2013 at the Montreal Protocol meeting in Bangkok, Shecco, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), officially launched their new guide on the Natural Solutions for Developing Countries.
A worldwide market research, this guide shares relevant experiences in the refrigeration, air-conditioning and foam sectors in which low-GWP technologies are employed. This is especially important from the perspective of the current phase-out of HCFCs in Article 5 countries, as prescribed in the phase-out deadlines of the Montreal Protocol.
The guide identifies and describes barriers and good practices in the uptake of natural substances from over 50 case studies and the outcome survey from more than 200 stakeholders from different developing countries.
In particular, it states that there are at least 2.5 million HFC-free units worldwide in light commercial sector and 50% of new domestic refrigerators use hydrocarbons. Also in the industrial sector, 90% of systems use ammonia in developed countries compared to 40% for developing countries. Worldwide, there are over 3,050 transcritical CO2 systems and 1,950 cascade systems. The guide also describes worldwide natural refrigerant trainings, safety standards and pioneering projects.
