This review article emphasizes the role of ionizing radiation in controlling spoilage microorganisms, extending the shelf life of strawberries, lettuce, sweet onions and carrots; reducing the incidence of foodborne illness; treatment of fruits and juices; germination of cells and seeds, and decontamination of vegetables and grains.
