A numerical analysis of an active magnetic regenerative cascade system.

Author(s) : APREA C., GRECO A., MAIORINO A.

Summary

In this paper, a model for predicting the performance and efficiency of an AMRC (active magnetic regenerative cascade) system is presented. The simulation studies a cascade system working with Gd(x)Tb(1-x) alloys as refrigerants, where the composition ratio is varied between the first and the second stage. The heat transfer medium is a water-glycol mixture (50% by weight). The model predicts refrigeration capacity, power consumption and coefficient of performance. The objective of this work is to provide an insight to the AMR cascade concept, potentially useful to improve both the temperature span and the compactness of the AMR systems.
