Anisotropic magnetocaloric effect in DyAl(2), DyNi(2) and Tb(1-n)Gd(n)Al(2) compounds.

Summary

The authors report on the magnetocaloric effect in the DyAl(2), DyNi(2) and Tb(1-n)Gd(n)Al(2) compounds. Their calculations for the Tb(1-n)Gd(n)Al(2) systems are in good agreement with the available experimental data. For DyNi(2), the anisotropic MCE was obtained using the microscopic entropy formulation and the extended Maxwell's relation which takes into account the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. For DyAl(2), the authors' calculations show that the anisotropic isothermal entropy and anisotropic adiabatic temperature changes, for a constant applied magnetic field B of 2 T, present at the spin reorientation temperature, peak values 60% higher than the ones observed in the usual magnetocaloric effect potentials curves, observed upon magnetic field variations from 0 to 2 T along the easy magnetization direction.
