Considers alternatives to copper in the form of thermoplastics. Presents a comparison of approved thermoplastics and treats their assembly and joining methods, pipe strength and expansion and contraction. Notes costs. Illustrates in a bar chart the penetration of plastics for hot and cold water pipes, 1997, for a range of European countries.
