Summary

THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES AN EDUCATIONAL LABORATORY RIG. IN THIS SYSTEM A MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT DRIVE FOR THE COMPRESSOR TAKES THE FORM OF A RANKINE CYCLE IN WHICH A CLOSED FLUID IS VAPOURISED, USED TO DRIVE A TURBINE, THEN CONDENSED AND PUMPED AS A LIQUID BACK TO THE BOILER. THE EDUCATIONAL RIG COULD NOT INCLUDE A TURBINE OR TURBO-COMPRESSOR BECAUSE OF THE NON-AVAILABILITY OF UNITS OF SUITABLY SMALL SIZE. THE MAKERS HAVE THEREFORE USED AN EJECTOR IN WHICH THE RANKINE CYCLE FLUID POWERS THE INDUCTION OF THE SAME FLUID USED AS A REFRIGERANT IN THE VAPOUR COMPRESSION PART OF THE SYSTEM. D.W.H.
