THE ARTICLE ADDRESSES COMMERCIAL PLANTS OF THE SIZE REQUIRED FOR SUPERMARKET SYSTEMS. THE PROBLEM IS ENHANCED BY THE NEED TO USE R22 AS A LESS OZONE DEPLETING REFRIGERANT THAN R502, WHICH COVERS MANY LOW TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS IN SINGLE STAGE COMPRESSION. THE CONCLUSION IS THAT PROVIDING THE MORE COMPLEX SELECTION PROCEDURE IS AIDED BY COMPUTER, THE USE OF SEPARATE LOW AND HIGH STAGE COMPRESSORS RESULTS IN GREATER EFFICIENCY, BETTER PARTIAL STANDBY, AND BETTER CAPACITY CONTROL.
