A modular adsorber for solar powered active carbon-ammonia refrigerator.

Adsorbeur modulaire pour machine frigorifique solaire charbon actif-ammoniac.

Author(s) : BOUGARD J., VERONIKIS G.

Summary

The collector-adsorber of a domestic solar refrigerating machine is made from longitudinally finned tubes containing the active carbon-ammonia reactive medium. The transient thermal behaviour of these tubes was modelled and studied experimentally. The apparent conductivity coefficient of the reactive medium and the exchange coefficient with the tube wall were determined, and an optimal sizing of the adsorber was found which corresponds to 60 mm-diameter tubes and fins of the same size. Tests carried out under artificial sunlight revealed a correlation between the measured behaviour and the calculated one.
