A new absorption chiller to establish combined cold, heat and power generation utilizing low-temperature heat.

Summary

Presently available absorption machines for air-conditioning are driven with heat of a minimum of 80 deg C. A combination of the standard single-effect and a double-lift process has been identified as a new cycle that can use driving heat down to return temperatures of about 55 deg C and permits temperature glides in generation of more than 30 K. Thus a large cooling capacity can be produced from the same heat source compared to a single-effect chiller run with the same heat carrier supply temperature and mass flow. According to the estimated heat exchanger area, competitive machine costs for this new chiller can be expected.
