Summary

PLATE-FIN HEAT EXCHANGERS ARE KNOWN TO BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO PLUGGING WITH SOLID PARTICLES, THUS LEADING TO FLOW MALDISTRIBUTION, EXCESSIVE PRESSURE DROP AND THERMAL UNDERPERFORMANCE. A CLEANING METHOD, BASED ON THE SUDDEN DISCHARGE OF A VOLUME OF AIR UNDER PRESSURE, THROUGH EACH STREAM, OR EACH INDIVIDUAL PASSAGE OF THE FOULED EXCHANGER, HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY USED ON A NUMBER OF EXCHANGERS IN SERVICE. THIS METHOD IS A RELIABLE AND EFFICIENT MEANS OF REMOVING SOLIDS ENTRAINED WITHIN PLATE FIN HEAT EXCHANGERS.
