Summary
A PERFUSION CIRCUIT HAS BEEN DEVISED TO ALLOW CONTROLLED HYPOTHERMIC PERFUSION OF ORGANS IN THE BORE OF A HIGH-FIELD NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE SPECTROMETER. THE AUTHORS HAVE OVERCOME THE PROBLEMS OF CIRCUIT DESIGN, COOLING AND TEMPERATURE MONITORING IN AREAS OF STRONG MAGNETIC FIELDS. THEIR STUDIES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED ON THE ISOLATED, PERFUSED RAT LIVER, AND SHOW THAT HIGH-ENERGY PHOSPHATES CAN EASILY BE MAINTAINED OVER SEVERAL HOURS OF CONTINUOUS PERFUSION.
