A review of the physical properties of ice slurries in industrial ice slurry applications.

Author(s) : EGOLF P. W., SARI O.

Summary

Two decades ago in the refrigeration domain - for the cooling of shops and supermarkets - a breakthrough in the new technology used for producing ice slurries has taken place. But there is still a huge potential to lower the energy consumption and the costs of the systems. Actions in this direction include the construction of new ice slurry generators or the development of new concepts for storage and mixing, etc. In this article, a short review of basic research on ice slurries is presented. Furthermore, more practical problems of the applications of the technology in refrigeration and process techniques are discussed. A special focus on system developments in Japan, and also systems used for air conditioning applications.
