A simplified model of a CO2-gas cooler.

Author(s) : AITTOMÄKI E. A.

Summary

The problems of an accurate calculation of a CO2-gas cooler are strongly varying thermal properties of CO2 and therefore slow computing because of a necessary iterative procedure. The common approach using of the logarithmic mean temperature difference is not possible. A simple method for calculation of the CO2-process in a gas cooler or condenser in T,s-diagram is outlined in the paper. Starting values are the inlet temperatures and the mass flow rates of the heat extracting flows. The method is based on searching the pinch point of the T,s-profiles so that a given temperature approach is achieved. The profiles are scaled so that the entropy changes of both flows are equal. The pressure of CO2 is adjusted until the preset temperature approach is achieved. The more accurate finite difference solution is compared with this approximative procedure.
