A study of effect of heat capacity of heater on the generation of several film boiling modes in the He II.

Author(s) : TAKADA S., MURAKAMI M., NOZAWA M., et al.

Summary

Recent reports indicated that two distinguishable unstable film boiling modes appeared in He II, the noisy and the weakly subcooled film boiling. The noisy film boiling is a kind of noise-induced large scale instability. These results were derived from experiments by using planar thin film heater. Consequently, the question whether the noisy boiling mode still appeared in the cases of heater with large heat capacity arose. This experimental study with a copper block heater with large capacity still concluded that four film boiling modes appeared with some modification of the boiling mode map on a p-T and p-q diagram.
