A theoretical investigation of condensation of HCFC123 on horizontal, integral-fin tubes.

Summary

A theoretical model for condensation of low-finned tubes has been used to compare performance characteristics of R11 and R123, for tubes having different thermal conductivities. The enhancement ratios for R123 were somewhat larger than those for R11, while the vapour-side heat transfer coefficients were slightly lower. For both fluids the model shows significant dependence of enhancement ratio (and heat transfer coefficient) on fin height and indicates optimum fin densities in excess to those currently used in practice.
