Summary

THIS WORK WAS CONCERNED WITH BUILDING AND TESTING APROTOTYPE HEAT PUMP WHICH INCORPORATED THERMOCHEMICAL ENERGY STORAGE. THE HEAT PUMP WAS DESIGNED TO UTILISE THE CHEAP ELECTRIC TARIFF. AMMONIA WAS USED AS THE REFRIGERANT AND AMBIENT AIR AS A HEAT SOURCE. THIS HEAT PUMP FEATURED TWO-STAGE COMPRESSION AND INCORPORATED A LIQUIDISED CALCIUM CHLORIDE ABSORBENT. THE USE OF A LIQUIDISED ABSORBENT SYSTEM IMPROVED THE HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER AND SIMPLIFIED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GENERATOR/ABSORBER OF THE HEAT PUMP.
