AFTER A BRIEF INTRODUCTION ON THE PREVIOUS HISTORY OF THE SOCALLED CHLOROFLUOROCARBON (CFC)-OZONE CONTROVERSY, THE DISCUSSIONS OF WHICH STARTED IN 1974 AND ARE STILL GOING ON, A MORE OR LESS CHRONOLOGICAL REVIEW IS GIVEN ABOUT THE ACTIVITIES DEVELOPED WITHIN THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY IN GENERAL AND IN THE NETHERLANDS IN PARTICULAR, WITH RESPECT TO POSSIBLE MEASURES TO REDUCE CFC-EMISSIONS INTO THE ATMOSPHERE, ESPECIALLY AS FAR AS APPLICATIONS IN REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING ARE CONCERNED.
