Summary

FURTHER STUDIES IN THIS AREA INDICATE THAT THE FEARS OF A DECREASE IN THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE OZONE MAY NOT BE SO DRASTIC AS PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT. NEW MODELS TAKE INTO ACCOUNT NOT ONLY THE RELEASE OF OZONE DESTROYING CHLOROFLUOROCARBONS, BUT ALSO THE SIMULTANEOUS EFFECT OF OTHER GASES. ALSO BETTER MEASURING TECHNIQUES HAVE ENABLED MORE ACCURATE INFORMATION TO BE USED. IT NOW APPEARS THAT, WHILST A REDUCTION MAY OCCUR, OTHER FACTORS MAY CANCEL IT. OTHER STUDIES ARE ALSO REPORTED CONCERNING THE EFFECT OF UV-B EXPOSURE ON ANIMAL AND PLANT LIFE. D.W.H.
