AIR COOLED PASSENGER TRANSPORT AS SOCIO-ECONOMIC COMPROMISE.

Author(s) : PRASAD M.

Summary

THE ESTIMATED COST OF AN EVAPORATIVE COOLER AND ITS ENERGY REQUIREMENT ARE ABOUT ONE-FOURTH OF THOSE OF AN AIR CONDITIONER. HENCE, AS A COMPROMISE THE COMFORT PRODUCED BY AN EVAPORATIVE COOLER HAS BECOME AN ATTRACTIVE FEATURE FOR THE INDIAN PEOPLE. ITS INTRODUCTION IN RAILWAYS HAS BEEN VERY MUCH REALIZED. HOWEVER, FOR THE COASTAL AREAS THE SAME MAY BE EXPLOITED BY USING HIGH VELOCITY OF AIR CIRCULATION, ABOUT 2.6 M/S. A BETTER COMFORT CONDITION MAY BE OBTAINED BY USING ADSORBENTS FOR DEHUMIDIFICATION OF HUMID AIR FOR EVAPORATIVE COOLING.
