Summary

THE AUTHORS REPORT THE RESULTS OF AN EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON THE POSSIBILITY OF REMOVING ETHYLENE FROM THE AIR IN COLD STORAGE ROOMS BY MEANS OF ABSORPTION TECHNIQUES WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF GLYCOL. TESTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT WITH AN EXPERIMENTAL SCALE MODEL OF AN ABSORPTION TOWER. THE BEST RESULTS ARE GIVEN BY PROPYLENE AND HEXYLENE GLYCOLS. THE ABSORPTION MEASURED DATA SHOW THAT USING GLYCOL SOLUTIONS IN AN AIR WASHER AS THE FIRST CLEANING STAGE, COUPLED WITH A PERMANGANATE PURIFIER AS THE SECOND STAGE CAN BE PROFITAL. E. F.
