Summary

Supermarket conditions are reproduced in the laboratory in order to evaluate air-temperature distribution inside a refrigerated display cabinet. The average temperature of the air inside the refrigerated display cabinet was 10.8 °C, whereas the required temperature was 4 °C. Use of a boundary charging zone gave rise to significant temperature gradients widthwise, lengthwise and vertically. Use of a normal loading zone was studied and it was demonstrated that the average temperature could be reduced by 2.2 °C in this way.
