Summary

R22 PLANTS AND AMMONIA PLANTS HAVE ENOUGH IN COMMON TO MAKE CONVERSION POSSIBLE. THE AUTHOR COMPARES THEIR PERFORMANCES. HE POINTS OUT LIMITATIONS IN THE USE OF SCREW COMPRESSORS AND REPORTS ON THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN THIS AREA. FINALLY, HE SUGGESTS DIFFERENT POSSIBLE LAYOUTS FOR AMMONIA MACHINES. BASED ON THE CURRENT STATE OF TECHNOLOGY, FLOODED AMMONIA INSTALLATIONS WITH 50 KG CHARGES, IN CONNECTION WITH PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS, AND WITH A REFRIGERATING CAPACITY OF 400 TO 500 KILOWATTS, ARE FEASIBLE. AN OPEN COMPRESSOR IS NEEDED.
