Ammonia as a refrigerant: international point of view.

Ammoniak als koudemiddel: internationaal beschouwd.

Author(s) : DUIVEN J. E.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The article reviews the papers presented at the 1997 Annual Meeting of the IIAR and argues that the use of ammonia as a refrigerant is increasing in both industrial and commercial refrigeration (in indirect supermarket and comfort cooling installations, i.e. water chillers). Ammonia is on the move, accelerated by better control and new technical developments such as plate heat exchangers and ammonia soluble lubricants. More sophisticated secondary fluids and the environmental issues (TEWI) go towards completing the picture.
