Ammonia in supermarkets: a totally integrated system for cooling, air conditioning and heating loads.

Author(s) : CLETO L. T.

Summary

This paper presents a complete system solution for supermarket applications using ammonia as a refrigerant and indirect cooling. In this project, and integrated system is used in a way that one of the compressors which operates during the day in order to attend frozen and chilled food loads, is switched to attend the air conditioning load in an overnight water cooling thermal storage system. Heating load is also integrated to the system taking advantage of the high discharge temperature in the ammonia compressors. Comparisons to conventional systems using R22 are also presented.
