Summary

A NEW DESIGN METHOD IS DESCRIBED BASED ON THE FILM MODEL APPROACH WHICH HAS PROVED TO BE FAST AND RELIABLE. THE FILM METHOD HAS BEEN EVALUATED AGAINST DATA MEASURED IN A LARGE SHELL AND TUBE CONDENSER. SYSTEMS STUDIED INCLUDE STEAM-AIR, MIXTURES OF METHANOL, ISOPROPANOL AND WATER AND A FOUR-COMPONENT HYDROCARBON MIXTURE AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE. THE APPLICATION OF THE FILM MODEL TO THE DESIGN OF STANDARD SHELL AND TUBE CONDENSERS IS DEMONSTRATED.
