Summary

ELECTRICITE DE FRANCEAND CARRIER CORPORATION STUDIED A RESEARCH PROJECT ON ENERGY CONSERVATION BY HEAT PUMPS FOR HEATING RESIDENTIAL AND OFFICE BUILDINGS. MEASURING INSTRUMENTS WERE INSTALLED IN TWO BUILDINGS AND THE ADVANTAGES OF HEAT PUMPS FOR WATER HEATING WERE CALCULATED BY A COMPUTER. IT WAS PROVED THAT WITH EQUIPMENT OF SUITABLE SIZE, CAREFUL INSTALLATION AND PROPER CONTROL, THE USE OF HEAT PUMPS WITH EITHER WATER OR AIR SOURCE, IN A DUAL-ENERGY HEATING SYSTEM, CAN GIVE A 50 TO 75% DECREASE IN ANNUAL CONSUMPTION IN FRANCE.
