Analysis of a low pressure triple-effect ammonia-water cycle in multiple operating modes.

Summary

A new low pressure absorption cycle using ammonia-water as working fluid is analysed for operation in multiple modes namely, cooling, heating and simultaneous heating and cooling. The cycle has a triple-effect performance in the cooling mode and can be switched to other operating modes easily. This cycle has significant advantages over other ammonia-water based triple-effect systems such as much lower maximum cycle pressure (limited to that in single-stage systems) and lower maximum temperature while having comparable performance. In addition, it is capable of year around operation leading to better utilization. Steady state simulation is performed for all the three modes of operation. The influence of the different parameters on the performance of the system in different modes is also presented.
