ANALYSIS OF A TRIPLE-ROTOR DIRECT-FIRED AIR CYCLE HEAT PUMP.

Author(s) : FITT P. W.

Summary

TWO HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS BASED ON THE JOULE CYCLE USING ONE COMPRESSOR AND TWO TURBINES HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED THEORETICALLY. THE MORE CONVENTIONAL VARIANT IN WHICH A HEAT PUMP IS DRIVEN BY A HEAT ENGINE WITH HEAT RECOVERY IS UNLIKELY TO PROVIDE THE BASIS OF A PRACTICAL SYSTEM. AN ALTERNATIVE VARIANT,IN WHICH THERE IS A SINGLE GAS FLOW PASSING THROUGH THE COMPRESSOR AND THE TWO TURBINES IN SERIES, OFFER A MORE ACCEPTABLE AIR STANDARD PERFORMANCE. A PRIMARY ENERGY RATIO BETTER THAN 1.2 APPEARS TO BE POSSIBLE UNDER REALISTIC OPERATING CONDITIONS.
