Summary

The paper analyses two types of district heating and cooling plants: absorption refrigerator and boiler system and electric heat pump system, by use of detailed measurement data with the aim of revealing the operating condition of heat source equipment. The results of the analysis show that in well-designed and well-operated plants some refrigerators run only during the peak heat demand period such as daytime in summer, while other refrigerators run practically all seasons. Briefly, refrigerators have respective roles in producing heat according to refrigerator types and their capacities. It also becomes obvious that the cooling water temperature has a strong influence on the COP of the refrigerators running during the peak heat demand period.
