Analysis of the performance characteristics of a refrigeration system operating on contaminated R404A refrigerant.

Number: 0766

Author(s) : GIL B.

Summary

The study conducted presents the performance of the refrigeration system operating with non-regenerated R404A and additionally contaminated with R32. Experimental studies of the refrigeration cycle have shown that a relatively small addition of R32 leads to significant changes in the system pressure analyzed. There is also a noticeable change in the compressor suction temperature, which for the averaged cycle is 6 K lower than for R404A. The reduction of the evaporating temperature and the deterioration of the heat exchange conditions lead to a reduction of the vapor superheat and, in long-term operation, to the appearance of liquid in the compressor suction line. Therefore, the advantages obtained by changing the composition of the refrigerant can only be obtained by a deliberate intervention, preceded each time by an analysis of the functioning of the cycle and the adjustment of its elements. Failure to do so may result in serious malfunction.
