Summary

THE SYSTEM FOR COOLING MILK ON DAIRY FARMS COMPRISES ESSENTIALLY A MILK COOLER INSIDE A BUILDING AND AN ICE-BANK TYPE CHILLING UNIT SITED IN THE OPEN. THE LATTER INCORPORATES A HEAT EXCHANGER IN THE FORM OF A SERIES OF VERTICAL INTERCONNECTED TANKS. IN OPERATION, COOLING WATER PASSES THROUGH THE TANKS WITH CONCURRENT COOLING, AND FORMATION OF ICE WHEN THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS SUFFICIENTLY LOW. THE CHILLED WATER IS THEN PUMPED THROUGH THE MILK COOLER AND BACK INTO THE CHILLING UNIT FOR RECOOLING BY ATMOSPHERIC AIR.
