Automatic seaborne pallet handling: a revolutionary concept in reefer design.
Type of article: Periodical article
Summary
In an automatic seaborne pallet handling ship, pallets would be loaded and discharged through a pallet-sized hatch in a deckhouse in the upper deck, turned and transported automatically on roller conveyors to a buffer store still in the deckhouse, then fitted to (or from) the quay through a side hatch by a purpose built trolley crane; thus, all ship-side operations will be totally under cover. The deckhouses are positioned such that one house will serve two adjacent holds.
