Summary
The enemy is a mould and is well-known to researchers: "Black Sigatoka" has destroyed many banana plantations around the world and is spreading like wildfire. The plant is permanently damaged, with the yield falling by 30-50 %. The fungus has also become extensively resistant to the pesticides used. A miracle is needed if the banana is not to disappear from the international market.
