Basic performance of CO2 cyclone refrigeration system.

Summary

The CO2 refrigeration system is unique in a way that the sublimation heat of dry-ice made at the expansion process is utilized by a newly designed cyclone separator-evaporator in the low-pressure cycle side of a cascade heat pump cycle. In the present study, the effectiveness of the cyclone separator-evaporator is examined and the basic performance of the system is evaluated by measuring temperature and pressure obtained by the cyclone separator-evaporator. The system performance is at the same time verified by adopting the exergy analysis of the system. The results of the present study show a promising outcome from the experimental system, such that avoidance of dry-ice blockage in the conventional evaporator is possible in the temperature range below -56.6˚C.
