Summary
With the transcritical process, which is characterized through horizontal heat release over a supercritical isobar, energy savings and compact, simple heat pumps are possible in certain conditions. These conditions include a big temperature spread of higher than 30 K at the heat supply, along with a high end temperature. The suitability of different refrigerants is discussed, along with the use of CO2 in heat pumps, including reversible ones.
