BETA-ALUMINA CERAMICS MANUFACTURED BY THE SPRAY-FROZEN/FREEZE-DRYING METHOD.

Summary

THE AUTHORS PREPARED AN ALCALINE COMPOUND (POTASSIUM, SODIUM, ALUMINA) BY SPRAY-FREEZING AND FREEZE-DRYING. THE CHEMICAL FORMULA FOR THE POWDERS VARIED ACCORDING TO THE ALCALINE AND MAGNESIUM OXIDE CONTENTS. THEY STUDIED THE PHASE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS. CALCINED POWDERS OF VARIOUS COMPOSITIONS WERE CHARACTERIZED AND EVALUATED FOR LATTICE, SURFACE AND MORPHOLOGICAL PARAMETERS. THE RAPID SINTERING OF POWDERS RESULTED IN A HIGH DENSITY (98 TO 99%) AND LOW FRACTION OF BETA-ALUMINA WITHOUT ANNEALING AFTER SINTERING.
